Headquartered near Chicago, Illinois, this leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of arts and crafts products is looking to hire a Controller to join the Executive Team. The Company’s products are sold in over 6,200 retail locations worldwide. The Company was founded in the late 1970s and is backed by a prominent private equity firm.
The Controller’s responsibilities will include:
All aspects of financial management, accounting, reporting, internal controls, and policies/procedures,
while being involved in operational areas including IT, HR, purchasing and facilities management.
- Executive oversight of financial operations, working capital, capital expenditures, debt levels, taxes, budgets, cash flow management and general accounting
- Managing the Company’s outside lending and private equity relationships
- Developing and directing financial plans used to drive company growth and market opportunities
- Establishing and overseeing all financial and operational controls and metrics within the organization, including bank covenant compliance
- Analyzing current and future business operations and plans to determine financial effectiveness
- Preparing and filing federal, state, third-party and other financial reports to ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS and other taxing entity requirements
- Assisting in the evaluation, integration and management of the company’s financial, administrative, HR and IT functions
- Working with management to establish performance goals and assess employee policies
The ideal candidate will have:
- An Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and a willingness to share knowledge.
- The highest caliber of work ethic and integrity.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting systems.
- Strong technical skills combined with practical application, problem solving skills and a proactive approach.
- Experience with bank debt (including financial covenant reporting) and managing a revolving credit facility.
- A clear understanding of cost structure, cash flow dynamics and management towards profitable growth.
- Consumer products experience, including relationship management for major retail customers, POS data analysis and monitoring, gross to net revenue accounting, etc.
- Experience with inventory control in a manufacturing environment.
- Leadership skills and strategic vision necessary to help build long term value.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
